Director Sailesh Kolanu returns with the third installment of the Hit franchise, this time with Nani in the lead role as investigative officer Arjun Sarkar. While the previous films featured Vishwak Sen and Adivi Sesh in gritty, grounded roles, Hit 3 takes a sharp turn into excessive violence, leaving behind the engaging investigation format that defined its predecessors.
Story
Arjun Sarkar (Nani), a hot-headed cop, narrates his journey to a fellow inmate in a Visakhapatnam prison. Appointed Superintendent of Police in Jammu and Kashmir, he investigates a gruesome murder and finds links to 13 similar killings across the country. His probe uncovers a dark website called CTK connected to the murders. Determined to unearth the culprits, Arjun dives deep into the sinister web. What challenges does he face, and what is CTK’s true connection to the crimes?
Analysis
Sailesh Kolanu aims big with Hit 3, given Nani’s star power. However, the film leans heavily into gore, sidelining the investigation angle. Unlike the nuanced storytelling in the first two parts, this installment feels like an action-heavy mass entertainer with little substance. Nani, styled as a larger-than-life hero, never quite fits the role of a cop. His character lacks the grounded realism of his predecessors, resembling more of a stylish action star than a law enforcement officer.
Films like Animal, Kill and Marco, along with violent OTT content, seem to have influenced Kolanu’s shift in tone. Unfortunately, the result is a film soaked in blood rather than suspense. The second half drags, and the climax—where Nani slays dozens—is exhausting rather than exciting. Even Nani’s use of profanity feels out of place for someone with a “boy-next-door” image.
Performance
Srinidhi Shetty makes a promising entry but is soon reduced to a forgettable character. Komalee Prasad carries over from the earlier films and does a decent job. Adivi Sesh’s brief cameo sparks some interest, but it’s too little, too late. Prateik Babbar’s villain role lacks conviction, raising questions about the industry’s obsession with Hindi actors for antagonists.
Technical Aspects
Cinematographer San John Varghese captures scenic visuals with finesse, making the visuals a rare highlight. Mickey J Meyer’s music, however, is a letdown. While the production values are commendable, the film’s excessive violence and weak storyline derail it.
Verdict
Hit 3 is not a true investigative thriller but rather a violent action film lacking depth. The over-the-top gore, dragged-out second half, and loss of narrative focus make it a disappointing addition to the franchise.
