Issue gazette on Aruna’s election

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has written a letter to the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Monday asking him to issue a gazette stating that DK Aruna was elected from Gadwal Assembly constituency in 2018.

The CEC directed Telangana CEO Vikas Raj to publish the High Court directions in the next gazette. The CEC addressed the letter to the CEO and the CEC’s Under Secretary Sanjay Kumar attaching a copy of the High Court order.Reacting to the CEC letter, DK Aruna demanded that the CEC’s orders should be implemented immediately. She said that she would meet the Assembly Secretary soon.

It may be recalled that the TS High Court delivered a verdict stating that the election of B. Krishna Mohan Reddy from Gadwal is invalid. The High Court also imposed a fine of Rs 2.50 lakh for submitting false information in the affidavit during filing nominations.

The High Court directed Krishna Mohan Reddy to pay Rs 50,000 to petitioner DK Aruna as expenditure. The High Court delivered its verdict stating that DK Aruna, who got the maximum number of votes after Krishna Mohan Reddy as the winner and should be considered as an MLA from December 12, 2018.

In the 2018 elections, DK Aruna contested on a Congress ticket and Krishna Mohan Reddy on a BRS ticket. Krishna Mohan Reddy got 1,00,057 votes and DK Aruna got 71,612 votes.
