The climate change crisis and its implications have brought to the forefront the need for institutionalising sustainability as a part of new developments universally. While the responsibility for a sustainable future rests with every citizen, authorities and organisations can affect change at an unparalleled scale and can create a significant impact.
The Government of Telangana has taken significant steps in this direction. IT Tower, Nizamabad has achieved the coveted Gold Rating from CII’s Indian Green Building Council (CII – IGBC) under the IGBC Green New Building Rating programme.
The facility was inaugurated by KT Rama Rao, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development; Industries and Commerce; and Information Technology, Electronics and Communications. C Sekhar Reddy, Chairman, CII Telangana & Chairman, IGBC, Hyderabad Chapter, has presented IGBC Gold rating- Plaque and Certificate to Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Department of Commerce & Industries, and EV Narasimha Reddy, VC & MD, TSIIC.
Key green features of the project are:
-Planted native and adaptive tree species accounting to 83 trees/acre to enhance the green cover and reduce the heat island effect.
-100% of roof area is coated with SRI paints to mitigate heat island effect.
-1,339 kiloliters of potable water is reduced annually by using efficient flow & flush fixtures.
-50 KWp capacity on-site Solar PV system, to cater 76.5% of the total annual energy consumption of the building.
-30.41% energy cost savings is achieved over the energy code, through highly efficient HVAC systems, lighting systems, glazing and roof assembly.
-40% of the total building materials by cost have been sourced locally
-76% of the interior spaces are naturally lit
Speaking on the occasion, Sekhar Reddy said, “The green measures of the facility recognised by IGBC certification are a testimonial to the preservation of natural resources, mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, and demonstrate TSIIC’s commitment to minimising its environmental impact, while taking forward developmental initiatives.
TSIIC’s dedication to environmental stewardship has made them an MoU partner of IGBC through which they are dedicated to set up Green Industrial Parks and generate awareness for sustainable infrastructure.”
