The Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is playing a safe game in the arrest of TDP supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu. At the same time Chandrababu, while trying to come out of the case, is now drowning in a quagmire of problems. The petition filed by former MP Undavalli Arun Kumar in the skill development scam has taken a new turn and Chandrababu has fallen into it.

In his petition, Undavalli had asked the AP High Court to hand over the skill development case to the CBI. When the High Court asked the AP Government about this it said that it has no objection to handing over not only the skill development case but also the Amaravati land scam and all other cases to the CBI.

The TDP is criticising Jagan for arresting Chandrababu. It is also blaming Jagan by saying that he resorting to vindictive politics by targeting Chandrababu. TDP circles thought that the AP government may not agree to hand over the skill development scam case to the CBI. But against their expectations, the state government’s opinion shocked them. The AP government’s opinion in the case is to hand over the case to the CBI as its hands will be free in the case and the Centre will enter the scene.

If the High Court asks Chandrababu’s opinion on this issue and if he opposes the CBI probe, that means the state government’s CID enquiry will remain. If he accepts the CID enquiry, the TDP may not have a chance to blame the AP government in the case.

If Chandrababu accepts the CBI probe he may face more trouble as everybody knows the CBI’s probe style. Then the TDP cannot blame the state CID and the CBI. TDP circles think that it is better that the case stays with Jagan instead of going into the hands of Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
