With Jailer set to make its OTT premiere on Prime Video on September 7th, director Nelson Dilipkumar appeared on Burning Questions. In the exclusive video, he can be witnessed speaking about his style of filmmaking and key aspects of filming the Pan-India thriller.

Speaking of his filmmaking style and filmmakers who inspire him, Nelson said, “My filmmaking style would be something that appeals to me and the audience as well. I try to strike a balance between the two.I am also trying to make it more entertainment-centric yet maintain a balance in the quality of the film. Many people have inspired my filmmaking style. Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, Wes Anderson, Guy Ritchie. In Tamil, it would be Mani Ratnam sir.”

Regarding the remarkable cast of Jailer, Nelson expressed his insights on effectively utilising screen space. “In Jailer, the cast has Mohanlal sir, Jackie Shroff sir. They come for fewer scenes yet have their own power and aura. So, their characters were written to match it. Thus, there was a natural balance when these actors did the specific roles. Since it was already in the script, it came out naturally.”

Nelson shared the most complicated sequence to shoot: “Every scene is usually complicated, but I would say the Rajasthan portion was physically tiring. There was a sniper fight sequence because of the hot climate and the sand storms. There was no phone signal. In that place, we had to assemble 250-300 people to shoot, which was difficult. We went to many live locations. Since we had Rajni sir, a lot of crowd needed to be controlled.”

Regarding Rajinikanth’s reaction to the lorry-topping scene, Nelson revealed, “ If Rajni sir likes it, he will say it is good else he won’t comment on it. When he saw this particular scene, he mentioned it was exciting.”
