Satish Babu, the director of the upcoming film Jathara will also be seen playing the lead actor. “I completed the script in 2016. I met the producer at an event where we exchanged our ideas. He liked the story and he narrated the story to his family, which they also responded positively and then we decided to start. The producers asked me to direct the film and I wanted to rope in a big actor for it. We approached a big actor, but we couldn’t get how to get him on board and roaming around for six months, then I decided to act as the lead actor in it,” added Satish Babu when asked how he became a director and leading actor of the film.
Deeya Raj will be seen playing the female lead, while Radhakrishna Reddy and Shiva Shankar Reddy are the producers of the film. “We wanted to rope in a Telugu speaking girl and went in search of the same to Mumbai to get a female lead. Later finalised Deeya Raj, who speaks Telugu. She is from Vijayawada,” said Satish Babu about the female lead. The film has completely Chittoor slang, he added. Talking about the upcoming film’s plotline Satish said that the film is based on a true incident. “One human turned cruel and decided to harm the Goddess, on the other hand another human fought against the cruel man and put the Goddess back in the temple. It’s a real incident and I added a few cinematic scenes to it,” said Satish Babu. He added that he told the incident in the same way, it became a documentary. “If I made this story as it happened it would become a documentary, so I took cinematic liberty to tell it in a commercial way,” he said. The director said that the Goddess’s temple is located in the Madanapalle area of Chittoor district, where people from 18 surrounding villages come to worship. “Over a year and a half, I interacted with local people and conducted research to craft the script. Gangamma, the Goddess, is revered with great devotion by the Telugu people and my film Jathara is a film that pays tribute to her,” said Satish Babu.
Satish Babu earlier worked as clinical scientist and later as an advocate. “I also worked as intellectual property and I was in immigration law. I have a lot of liberty to work on a lot of scripts, so that’s how I came up with the script,” said Satish Babu. “From my childhood I wanted to work in the film industry. I would like to continue in the industry as an actor or director whichever comes to me. I have a few stories to narrate and also met a couple of producers. With this film’s experience I know, I can narrate some good stories in the future,” said Satish Babu.
