It has been 15 years since pharmacy student Ayesha Meera was brutally murdered, but the accused is yet to be nabbed by the police. Meanwhile, Shamshad Begum, mother of the deceased, has accused senior IPS officers of misleading the case to save the actual culprits. Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, she said that the police had arrested Satyam Babu portraying him as the prime accused, but later released him as they could not establish him guilty. She said that as justice was not done despite the CBI’s intervention, they would knock on the doors of the apex court.
She said that the CBI took over the case in December 2018. “A DNA test was done in Secunderabad. The CBI took all the details from us. Despite the religious head objecting to the re-postmortem, it was done as per court orders. However, even after three years, the body parts have not been handed over to us,” she said and alleged that the CBI was also corrupt. She added that they would move the apex court seeking justice to Ayesha. “We will not backtrack until the real culprits are punished and justice is done. Ayesha was murdered when Dr YSR was the CM. Now, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy should enact a law in the name of Ayesha in line with Nirbhaya.
The government should extend full cooperation to punish the criminals, she added.
Women’s leader Ganga Bhavani said that under the banner of Nyaya Porota Samiti, they were fighting to get justice for Ayesha. Since the death of Ayesha in 2007 to 2019, various departments have investigated the case, but all failed to catch the culprits. “Under whose pressure are they acting,” she asked, and pointed out that the victim’s family was not even given any help from the government. “We have no faith in PM Modi or CM Jagan and have decided to move the Supreme Court,” she added.
