YSRCP women’s wing working president and MLC Varudu Kalyani has vehemently condemned the recent surge in attacks targeting marginalised communities in Andhra Pradesh. Pointing fingers at the Opposition, particularly Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Kalyani labeled the assaults as a direct assault on democratic values.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Varudu Kalyani said: “YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has aptly termed this struggle as a battle between the impoverished. It’s disheartening to witness the poor being mercilessly targeted based on their affiliations.” The rhetoric didn’t spare Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of orchestrating violence for political gains. Kalyani likened TDP to a group of thugs, highlighting instances of women being brutally assaulted simply for their political allegiance.
Among the numerous accounts of violence, Kalyani shed light on the case of Palamuru Rajakumari, a victim of TDP candidate Ayyannapatra’s brutality. Rajakumari, a former volunteer in Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government, was subjected to a vicious attack solely for her support of the YSR Congress Party. “Is it a crime to exercise one’s democratic right? The TDP’s actions reek of misogyny and desperation for power,” Kalyani asserted.
Further instances recounted included the harrowing ordeal of Vemula Sandhyarani and the unjust detention of SC and BC women from Kothaganeshunipadu. Kalyani didn’t mince words in condemning Chandrababu’s track record of disrespect towards women, citing past instances of derogatory remarks and callous behaviour. The blame for the recent wave of violence was squarely laid at the feet of Chandrababu and Purandeshwari, with allegations of political machinations to disrupt the electoral process.
As the State braces for the upcoming election results on June 4, Kalyani expressed confidence in the electorate’s endorsement of the Jagananna government. Promising swift action against perpetrators of violence, she emphasised YSRCP’s commitment to upholding democratic principles. “In our pursuit of justice, no one will be spared, regardless of their position or affiliation. The people have spoken, and their voices will be heard,” Kalyani concluded.
