Health Minister Harish Rao said that Telangana’s Kanti Velugu programme has made remarkable progress towards preventing blindness in the state, having examined over 1.17 crore people.
He said that the programme, which aims to make Telangana preventable blindness-free, has completed 59 working days of its second phase, initiated by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. The programme’s target is to examine 2 crore people, and it is well on its way to reaching that goal.
Minister Harish Rao conducted a review meeting on Sunday and has commended the DMHOs, Deputy DMHOs, Program Officers, Medical Officers, Ophthalmologists, Medical Supervisors, ANM, Ashas, DEOs, Panchayati Raj, Municipal and other department officials and public representatives for their hard work and dedication towards the programme’s success.
He directed the DMHOs to ensure that Kanti Velugu is accessible to everyone who needs it. The remaining districts have been instructed to complete their targets within the next 41 working days. The minister also ordered an increase in the number of special camps organised by courts, jails, police, press, and RTC for the distribution of glasses.
Over 15,86,000 people have received reading glasses, while 9.95 lakh people have received prescription glasses, according to the statement. In addition, 85,50,000 people (72 per cent of the total) have been found to have no eye problems through the tests conducted.
The medical staff working on the programme are being provided with the necessary facilities, including food, accommodation and transportation, without any difficulty. The government has also released the required funds to the districts to ensure that all necessary facilities are in place.
In addition, the Arogya Mahila programme, aimed at ensuring comprehensive healthcare for women, has started with weekly Tuesday sessions. Women who require medical treatment will be referred to higher facility hospitals where medical services will be provided. District Health Officers (DHOs) and programme officers will closely monitor the programme.
The review meeting was attended by officials, including Family Welfare Commissioner Swetha Mahanthi, Director of Medical Education (DME) Ramesh Reddy, District Health Officer (DHO) Srinivasa Rao, Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP) Commissioner Ajay Kumar, TSMSIDC Managing Director Chandrasekhar Reddy, DMHOs of all districts, Deputy DMHOs, Program Officers, and other officials.
