In his most recent movie, Rohan Gurbaxani masterfully portrays the spirit of the times we live in. However, the film Kho Gaye Hum Kahan also served as a sobering reminder of the ostentatious lives many people lead behind fancy social media pages that include photos of them enjoying life to the fullest. This actor, who graduated from The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, is a potential talent whose journey from Bangalore to the world of entertainment is quite inspiring.
“Wow, that’s a first in all the interviews I’ve done so far—a commitment-phobic role. My method rarely varies for any position. All I’m trying to do is defend my character! I was among individuals from that generation, so it wasn’t too hard for me to play my prior role. It was a story about my generation, and it fit very well,” the actor told us in a special interview.
Although Rohan had little experience with theater, his passion for drama started in the eighth grade, when he developed aspirations to study it at New York University. The pivotal moment occurred when he joined LSTFI, where he gained experience honing his skills and realised he could become a master actor. “The toxic boyfriend, who cheats and is kind of emotionless, doesn’t resonate with who I am in real life at all,” he went on. “When I learned that people were detesting my movie performance, I finally breathed a sigh of relief. Well done, Rohan.”
In the midst of the pandemic, Rohan left for a three-month trip to India with the goal of making contacts in business. Rohan also helped with the pre-production of Fukrey 2 and helped the production crew on the sets of Rock On 2— “My previous role was a negative, one-sided role. I was aware that viewers would not be able to relate to me and would instead find it offensive to watch me. For instance, I found the fight sequence with Siddhant to be pretty challenging! We reshot the identical sequence three months later. We both said at one point, ‘Just go for it! We don’t need cushioning and all that.’ Even if it causes us pain.” The main reason Rohan shared this revelation with us from his most recent film was to simply highlight the abundance of possibilities available to us in this day and age. Only left and right swipes are being made! He pinpoints; neither exaggeration nor invention were present.
Rohan also recalled how he received a life-altering audition notification for the second season of Zoya Akhtar’s Made in Heaven one week before he was scheduled to return to New York. His outstanding performance in the show was a breakthrough that led to more chances in the Indian film industry! “These days, we are only using social media to find ways to escape. Or with alcohol’s assistance. Nobody desires to experience depression or nervousness! All in all, we recently finished a movie about friendship. Now, keep an eye out for me in Life in a Metro 2 and Bandish Bandits 2,” he continued.
