Phone tapping scam Lookout notice against police officer, two others

The city police have issued lookout notices to former Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) chief T Prabhakar Rao, a Telugu media channel CEO Shravan Rao and Radha Kishan Rao on Sunday in connection with phone tapping scam. They went abroad after Praneeth Rao’s arrest. Praneeth Rao reportedly told police that he had acted on the orders of the then SIB chief Prabhakar Rao and other officers.
In relation to this case, Bhupalpally Additional Superintendent of Police N Bhujanga Rao, and City Security Wing Additional DCP Tirupathanna were arrested on Saturday and a city court remanded them in judicial custody for 14 days on Sunday. Both the officials were booked under Indian Penal Code  section 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant) and section 70 of the Information Technology Act.
A police official said that during the investigation, Tirupathanna and N Bhujanga Rao have confessed about their
involvement in abusing their official position.  After the declaration of state assembly election results on December 3, 2023, Praneeth Rao had allegedly erased data and destroyed 42 hard disks. After finding out he was arrested on March 13, then he was suspended.

Then ACP Nayini Bhujanga Rao from Rachakonda Police Commissionerate was awarded the ‘Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation’ in 2021. And another accused then Additional SP (SIB) M Thirupathanna was awarded the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation for 2023.
