Amidst the entire chaos one goes through while visiting Meeseva centres, the season has come for children to occupy space in the queue of new enrollment for Aadhaar. Summer vacation is the best time to finish the pending work for children, say parents.
Aparna (name changed) standing in a line guessing what is the lady sitting in front of the computer doing with the camera and another machine where her fingers need to be put, said, “ I am here with my mother. She said I need to sit, look into the camera and smile, and later put my fingers on a machine (Biometric fingerprint). Then I will be given a card which is used for my admission to a new school.”
Another parent Rakesh said, “This is the best time I can bring my children to Meeseva. We put our head caps and umbrella as it is very hot outside because we are here for children’s documents and any error made will take time to get corrected. So, if in 15 days the new Aadhaar card is out, then we will cross check and finish the process. The work will be completed without disturbing my children’s academics.”
Another set of crowd has lack of awareness on keeping up their Aadhaar card updates after every five years and wear a surprised look when the administration informs them that they need to update with Biometrics then after 15 days any corrections would be possible.
Hemalatha (50) said, “I had an emergency to submit my Aadhaar document but as the address has not been changed, I have come for it and they say first Biometric update is essential, then any corrections in the name, address and date of birth will be done. There must be awareness of such rules so that common people don’t suffer.”
As it is humid, the few requirements of people walking into Meeseva say that they need drinking water and a washroom facility. The doors of the washroom are locked for the public and used by the officers only.
