BRS Working President KT Rama Rao hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Sunday remarks in Karnataka about ‘Hyderabad Liberation Day.’

KTR reminded Amit that September 17 was celebrated by the Telangana Government officially as National Integration Day as Hyderabad state was integrated into the Indian Union on that day in 1948. KTR tweeted that Amit’s blatant misrepresentation is unbecoming of a Union Home Minister.

“Some news clips for your reference,” wrote KTR along with the posts of some newspaper clippings about the celebration of National Integration Day.

“To those who ask why can’t we call it Liberation Day; Why do we celebrate August 15 as Independence Day and not as Liberation Day? What should matter is respectful commemoration of the sacrifices and struggles against oppressors, be it the British or the Nizam,” KTR tweeted.

“Stop being a prisoner of the past. Become the architect of your future,” he added.

During his visit to Karnataka’s Bidar district on Sunday, Amit had targeted the BRS government of Telangana for hesitating to celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day.

The Union Minister inaugurated the Gorata Martyrs’ Memorial and a memorial of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Gorata.

Amit highlighted the sacrifices of the people of Gorata who were killed by the Nizam’s Razakars for hosting a 2.5-ft tall Tricolour. He said that now a 103-ft tall Tricolour has been hoisted at the same place.

The Home Minister also targeted the Congress vote bank politics. He said the party never commemorated the martyrs who laid down their lives for India’s Independence and the liberation of Hyderabad.
