Daggubati Purandewari assumed charge as the president of Andhra Pradesh unit at the state BJP office here on Thursday. She replaces Somu Veerraju.
Later talking to the media, she alleged that the law and order situation has deteriorated in the State and asked the government to hand over the responsibility of completing the Polavaram project to the Centre.
She regretted that due to the wrong policy of Jagan Mohan Reddy government, inordinate delay had taken place in the construction of the Polavaram project. She alleged that sand is being plundered by the ruling party leaders. Promising to work hard to strengthen BJP in the State, she dismissed the allegations that the Centre had not fulfilled the Reorganisation Act provisions stating that more than SCS benefits had been extended to AP.
The Centre had allocated 22 lakh houses for the poor to AP and Rs 1.80 lakh was sanctioned to each house. The Centre had extended Rs 20,000 crore to AP during the last nine years and 65% of houses should be constructed so far. But only 35% of houses had been constructed so far, she said and demanded that the government explain the reasons to the people.
Former BJP president Somu Veerraju, MP GVL Narasimha Rao, CM Ramesh, former Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, BJP national secretary Satyakumar, Vakati Narayana Reddy and a host of BJP leaders were among those who were present.
