Speaking on the occasion, RDO E Kishore directed the officials to lay focus on the areas where the gender ratio is low and take steps to prevent foeticide.  He also directed the officials to take steps not to misuse the sex determination tests. Vigilance should be laid on the ultrasound scanning centres. Using the ultrasound tests to determine the gender of the foetus, he said.
“The use of ultrasound examinations is a criminal offence for the diagnosis of gender and stringent measures will be taken against the scanning centres that conduct sex determinate tests in contravention of government regulations at the division level,” the RDO made it clear.
He said that there are 107 scanning centres in the Kakinada district and surprise inspections would be conducted on the centres to prevent conducting gender determination tests. So far surprise inspections have been conducted on 146 scanning centres since April, he informed.
