If there is no development then there is a violation of rights, said Government Advisor Jupudi Prabhakar Rao. On the occasion of International Human Rights Day on December 10, National Awards for Human Excellence programme was organised by Dr A Raja, President, Philanthropic Society of India.

Speaking on the occasion, Prabhakar Rao, said that India is ranked 134th in the Human Development Index and 108th in the Hunger Index. Human development is mainly measured by life expectancy, years of education and per capita income, which means that India per capita is far behind in these three things, according to a report released by the United Nations.

Prof Joseph Ahn from Korea, a special guest on the occasion said India is the fifth largest Economy in the world, but the average Indian ranks low in human development. He said that if the governments focus on the development of aspects like hunger, poverty, unemployment, the safety of women, child labor, health, safe drinking water, education, and open defecation, with the cooperation of the people who are mainly suffering, human development will be possible and in turn, human rights will be protected.

Eminent environmentalist Chilukuri Srinivasa Rao, Dream Organization President Medara Suresh, Sri Vigyana Vedika Convenor Cherukuwada Ranga Sai, Dr Vespogu Balu, All India BC Federation National President Dr Satyavada Srinivas, Dr GK Babu and others were present.
