Lokesh responds to plight of 25 disabled students

Must read

Education Minister Nara Lokesh has directed officials to issue a special Government Order (GO) to address the issue faced by disabled students concerning the Intermediate marks list. Maruti Prithvi Satyadev, from Vijayawada, secured the 170th rank in the disabled quota in this year’s JEE Advanced examination. He brought to the minister’s attention, through WhatsApp, the problem encountered while uploading the Intermediate certificate. Based on his rank, Satyadev is eligible for a seat at IIT Chennai.
However, the Intermediate Board has traditionally issued an ‘E’ (EXEMPTION) in the certificate for the exempted subject for disabled students. During the document verification process, when the intermediate memo was uploaded, it was noted that the memo only listed four subjects, with Mathematics A and Mathematics B considered as one subject. As a result, the intermediate document was not accepted.
When Satyadev contacted IIT Madras regarding this issue, they stated that admission could only be granted if the certificate included a specific numerical value instead of ‘E’ for the second language subject. Upon learning of this issue, Minister Lokesh promptly issued instructions to the higher authorities to take necessary measures to ensure that no injustice is done to the affected students.
Thanks to the minister’s initiative, a total of 25 disabled students have been admitted to prestigious educational institutes like IITs and NITs across the country. The minister will meet and felicitate the students at his residence in Undavalli on Monday, July 8.
