The Movie Artists Association of Andhra Pradesh (MAA-AP) has urged Andhra Pradesh Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh to support the film industry in the state by establishing a new studio on a 100-acre site in Amaravati, to be named Amaravati Cinema Studios. They have also requested subsidies for cinema shootings.
On Saturday, representatives of MAA-AP met with Minister Durgesh at the Secretariat in Velagapudi, Amaravati, to discuss these proposals.
Dileep Raja, Founder President of MAA-AP, emphasised the need for immediate discussions on creating infrastructure to support the cinema industry in Andhra Pradesh. He proposed the construction of the Amaravati Cinema Studios and sought land allocations for producers interested in building cine studios in Rajahmundry, Tirupati, and Visakhapatnam. Additionally, MAA-AP requested housing for producers, directors, actors, and technicians in Amaravati.
Raja also highlighted the need to address the potential closure of cinema theatres in Andhra Pradesh, noting that there are 1,090 theatres in the state compared to 485 in Telangana. He said that his focus is solely on advancing the film industry in Andhra Pradesh.
The proposals from MAA-AP have been formally submitted to Minister Durgesh. Raja mentioned that the state offers numerous scenic locations, such as Bhavani Island (Vijayawada), Konaseema, Godavari coast, Lambasingi, Araku Valley, waterfalls, sea shores, forests, and green crop fields, which could be promoted for cinema shootings.
Actors Meesala Bhaskar, Military Prasad, Tina Chaudhary, Manne Satyannarayana, and others attended the meeting to support these initiatives.
