West Godavari District Collector C Naga Rani has underlined the need to maintain hygienic conditions to contain diarrhoea.
The Collector flagged off an awareness rally ‘Stop Diarrhea’ taken out here on Monday to create awareness among people to check diarrhoea. The ‘Stop Diarrhea’ awareness rally went through the main road and concluded at the Tahsildar office.
Speaking on the occasion, Collector Naga Rani said that strict measures have been taken to control the diarrheal disease in the district as per the orders of the government.
She said that the ‘Stop Diarrhea’ programme is being conducted from July 1 to August 31 to prevent diarrheal disease, adding that this disease can be prevented only through awareness. Steps have been taken to organize wide awareness programmes across the district, she said.
The Collector directed the ASHA workers and the ANMs of the district to visit schools and welfare hostels daily and inquire about the health of children. She also ordered them to distribute ORS and zinc tablets to the needy and educate them about cleanliness and health protection.
All steps should be taken to ensure that drinking water does not get contaminated anywhere in the district, she told the medical and health officials and instructed them to supply protected drinking water. Collector Naga Rani stated that various types of diseases like diarrhoea are prevalent due to lack of hygiene and asked the officials concerned to take steps to improve sanitation in rural and urban areas. Apart from making people aware of cleanliness, she suggested prevention of diseases through precautionary measures. “The officials of all departments of the government should work in a coordinated manner to ensure that no diarrhea deaths take place in the district,” the Collector told the officials.
The Collector later released wall posters creating awareness on containing diarrhoea and distributed ORS packets and Zinc tablets. DMHO D Maheswara Rao, District Immunization Officer Deva Sudha Lakshma, Municipal Commissioner M Shyamala and other officials were among those who were present.
