Man takes to crime after heavy loss in online betting; jailed

A man who took to crime after losing heavily in online betting landed behind bars here on Tuesday. The police, according to Warangal Police Commissioner Amber Kishore Jha, seized from the arrested person gold ornaments weighing 334 grams worth approximately Rs 28.5 lakh, silver ornaments weighing 1.6 kg, Rs 13,000 in cash, a motorcycle, a mobile phone, and tools used for theft.
The suspect is a 30-year-old  Kondapalli Dharmaraju. He hailed from Rayaparti in the Warangal district. He was residing in the Subedari locality in Hanamkonda when he was arrested. Dharmaraju completed his degree and ran a biryani hotel in Rayaparti for a while, but suffered losses. Subsequently, he moved to a rented accommodation in Hanamkonda under the guise of being a student, the Police Commissioner said.
To recover his lost money, he borrowed money and engaged in online betting, leading to heavy losses. He was unable to repay debts. This drove him to choose the path of theft to earn easy money. He acquired tools for breaking in and used his motorcycle to identify locked houses during the day, later breaking into them at night.
In total, the suspect committed 17 burglaries within the Warangal Police Commissionerate. Eight of the burglaries took place in the limits of the KUC police station 2 each in the limits of Hanamkonda and Hassanpurt police stations, and one each in Subedari, Sangem, Ghanpur, Palakurthi, and Devaruppula police stations, Amber Kishoe Jah revealed.
Police formed special investigation teams under the supervision of Central Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Shakeel Saleem. Using advanced technology, they identified and monitored the suspect. On Tuesday, police received credible information that the suspect was heading to KUC with stolen items in his vehicle.
The CCS and KUC police jointly apprehended him at KUC Cross during a vehicle inspection. During interrogation, he confessed to the crimes, and the stolen items were recovered, the Police Commissioner said.
The Central Zone DCP Saleem, along with Additional DCP Ravi, Crime ACP Bhoja Raju, Hanamkonda ACP Devender Reddy, and the CCS inspectors, were commended by the Warangal Police Commissioner for their efforts in apprehending the suspect and recovering the stolen property.
