The World Health Day was observed in Hyderabad on Sunday via a 5-kilometer marathon titled ‘ Run for Health’.
The event was jointly organised by Yashoda Hospital Hitech City and the Tata Consultancy Services. “The objective of this run is to discourage unhealthy lifestyle which has negative impact on our heart health. Emphasising exercise should be a part of our daily routine, regular exercise helps in improving physical health and also mental health & is one of the best stress busters,” said Dr GS Rao, while inaugurating the 5K Mega ‘Run for Health’ along with TCS president Rajanna.
Rajanna said, “Addiction such as tobacco and alcohol can have detrimental effects on our health. So, youth particularly working and software professionals must avoid such addictions to keep themselves healthy. Adults who sit less and do any amount of moderate to vigorous physical activity are given good benefits to stay fit and be healthy.”

“There is a need to take advantage of exercise-related benefits and we need to do it in the right way under the supervision of qualified professionals only. If any health issues, please speak to a physician or cardiologist before starting exercises. Overdosing will not give any additional benefit. Healthy adults should aim for 150 to 300 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous intensity aerobic physical activity each week.” said Dr Pavan Gorukanti.  Over 5,000 people participated in the marathon.
