KCR takes a few steps backwards to leap ahead

There is a Telugu film dialogue which says ‘Great is the man who knows not where to win, but knows where to humble himself’ (Ekkada neggalo kadu, Ekkada thaggalo thelisinode goppodu). BRS President Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is following the same dictum in the run-up to the Telangana Assembly elections.

KCR is going against his nature on several issues. Usually, KCR never compromises on any decision. But ahead of the Assembly elections, KCR has changed his attitude to achieve the big goal of a hat-trick victory in the Assembly elections.

A lion takes one step backwards before taking four steps forward. Some recent decisions of KCR are surprising not only to the BRS but to political observers too. He is taking decisions aggressively shocking political observers as well as the BRS.

The recent decision to patch up with the Governor, Dr Tamilisai Soundarrajan, to take BRS MLC Patnam Mahendar Reddy into the Cabinet and to appoint Vemulawada BRS MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh as a government advisor goes against KCR’s temperament.

Currently, the main goal of KCR is to win the next Assembly elections. Accordingly, to achieve this objective, KCR has changed himself.

Ahead of the Assembly elections, all decisions taken by the government have been implemented.

During election time all governments take decisions keeping political advantage in mind. This will happen if government decisions are implemented and reach the people.

For this, the government has to overcome some obstacles. In this regard, the main obstacle was the gulf between Pragathi Bhavan and Raj Bhavan. If this gulf is bridged the government can overcome the main obstacle.

It may be recalled that the Governor kept many important Bills pending like approving the names of MLCs appointed in the Governor’s quota recommended by the Cabinet.

Keeping this in view, KCR himself took the initiative to bridge the gulf between Pragathi Bhavan and Raj Bhavan. The incidents that took place during the last two days illustrate this. KCR invited the Governor for the inauguration of the three places of worship located on the Secretariat’s premises.

Interestingly, KCR did not invite the Governor for the inauguration of the new Secretariat but now he has invited her for the inauguration of the places of worship located on the same Secretariat’s premises.

Another thing is that when BRS MLC Patnam Mahendar Reddy, a strong leader in the erstwhile Ranga Reddy district, was planning to leave the party to join the Congress KCR woke up and neutralised the Congress move.

KCR decided to take Mahendar Reddy into the Cabinet and implemented it without wasting time. KCR has never did anything like this in the past to prevent just an MLC from crossing over.

On the Vemulavada BRS MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh issue also KCR took a quick decision and blocked the Congress move. Chennamaneni Ramesh was denied an Assembly ticket due to cases pending against him in court regarding his citizenship.

When the BRS leadership refused a ticket to him Chennamaneni thought about leaving the party. In a damage control move, KCR appointed Ramesh as a government advisor (agriculture) to please him.
