Mediation builds relations between people: TS CJ

Must read

The courts cannot stop people from coming to them as it is their fundamental right. As backlogs and pendency is an issue, we look for alternatives. It is wrong to say that mediation alone is the solution for resolving disputes. But it is in interest based on individual and it builds the relations between people after resolving the cases, said Ujjal Bhuyan, Chief Justice of TS High Court, in the third anniversary of the Mediation Writings Centre.

“Mediation is a part of the alternative resolution process and is not new to our country. Since time immorial we have followed meditation to supplement for family disputes.” Sharing an example, he said that in one of popular magazines he saw a girl walking with many bricks but still carried a smile. Add two more bricks and she will collapse. So, interelating the incident with the judicial system, we have a maximum limit. Beyond it we cannot. We cannot stop people coming to courts because it is their fundamental right and we cannot deny it. With these backlogs we are bound to look at alternatives. Of course, all issues cannot be discussed by Lok Adalats. This is where mediation comes. It is reducing the pendency.”

Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, who was the chief guest, said that mediation is the need of the hour. Earlier, families would solve the problems but these days interest litigation has become public litigations.
