Medical negligence: Cotton pad left in woman’s abdomen during C-Section

In a shocking incident of medical negligence, doctors in the Mancherial Government Hospital allegedly left a cotton pad in the abdomen of a woman during a caesarean section (C-section). It posed a danger to her life.

Keerti Laya was admitted to the Mancherial Government Hospital after she developed labour pains five days ago. She hailed from Neelwal village under Vemanapally mandal.

The doctors performed a C-section on her. The doctors declared that the operation was successful. She gave birth to a baby. However, it was not realised that a cotton pad was left in her abdomen during the surgery.

She took ill on Monday and her condition started deteriorating. Her relatives rushed her to Chennur Government Hospital. The doctor, after performing tests on her, found that a cotton pad was left behind in her abdomen during C-section. The doctors performed surgery on her and removed the cotton pad. The doctors said that her condition is stable now.

Mancherial Government Hospital superintendent Harichander Reddy said that an inquiry was ordered into the incident.

It may recalled that a woman died recently after she gave birth to a baby due to the alleged negligence of a doctor at Achampet Government Hospital. The woman underwent a C-section and gave birth to a baby boy. After she was discharged from the hospital, she started bleeding and she died.
