The KCR government is constantly trying to help farmers and this is evidenced by the continuous procurement of paddy even in extreme weather conditions from the farmers of Telangana at the minimum support price which is unprecedented in the country, Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar said.

The minister held a special meeting on Thursday with the Millers’ Association at the secretariat on issues facing Yasangi paddy procurement, CMR 100 per cent and other matters.

He said farmers should not suffer under any circumstances and that millers must cooperate with the government. The minister said that FAQs should not be ignored even if the paddy is broken, and the unloading of the grain should be taken up immediately.

Gangula said that CMR should be completed within the stipulated time, and in the light of the previous interim report of the expert committee on the percentage of oil in Yasangi paddy, it will be brought to the attention of the CM soon. After that, it will be decided on how to apply it to the current Yasangi rice varieties and conditions.

The millers brought the problems they were facing to the attention of the minister. In Telangana, Yasangi temperatures make the paddy break at the peak stage, and without taking this into account, the Centre has asked farmers and millers to supply raw rice in Yasangi. They wanted the Centre to reconsider this decision.

Gangula said the millers are also partners in agriculture and bear the responsibility of bringing the crop grown by the farmer to the consumer.

Civil Supplies Commissioner Anil Kumar, GM Srinivasa Rao, Rice Millers Association President Gampa Nagender, General Secretary A. Sudhakar Rao, Working President B. Prabhakar Rao, Treasurer Chandrapal and the presidents of all districts attended the meeting.
