The Daddanala Lake (Jurreeru Lift Irrigation Scheme) near Banaganapalle has been revived, bringing hope back to thousands of farmers. The Minister for Roads, Buildings, Investments and Infrastructure, BC Janardhan Reddy has personally invested his own funds to restore the project, reigniting optimism among the farming community.
With his initiative, four defunct motors associated with the project have been repaired, allowing water to flow through the canals once again. This restoration has made farmers happy as the irrigation scheme becomes operational. Despite the State’s financial constraints, Minister Reddy allocated approximately `25.75 lakh from his own resources for the motor repairs, resulting in widespread happiness among local residents and farmers.
In 2018, during the tenure of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Minister Reddy had inaugurated the Daddanala Lift Irrigation Scheme with a significant investment of around `21 crore. The project was designed to lift water from the SORB canal, located 13 kilometres away, to fill the Daddanala Lake, which had a water flow of 227.18 m. The scheme successfully transported water to the lake in its initial year, much to the delight of local residents and farmers. However, subsequent governance by the YSRCP led to neglect of the project, significantly diminishing its effectiveness. Over the past five years, the YSRCP government has reportedly sidelined the project, resulting in the complete disrepair of the four motors needed for water lifting.
As the water level in Daddanala Lake continued to decline, surrounding agricultural fields also suffered from water shortages, preventing farmers from planting crops. Following Minister Reddy’s recent efforts, the project has regained its past glory, bringing water back to Daddanala Lake and restoring hope among farmers. With the successful repair of the four motors, which have a capacity of 250 HP, the scheme is expected to release 17.74 cubic meters of water, benefiting villages such as Jolapuram, Sadakottam, Pathapadu, Meerapuram, Madasupalle, Yagantipalle, and Banaganapalle.
This revival will provide irrigation support to approximately 1,514 acres of land, benefiting around 500 farmers and over 7,000 residents from 10-15 villages.
The project will significantly enhance the local economy, especially for farmers growing crops like rice, maize, and cotton.
