Minister inaugurates adventure water sports at Tatipudi ReservoirPPP initiative to boost tourism, create jobs, and transform Tatipudi into a premier tourist destination

Minister for MSME, SERP, and NRI Affairs Kondapalli Srinivas, inaugurated adventure water sports at Tatipudi Reservoir in Gantyada mandal on Friday, marking a significant step towards enhancing tourism in the region. The project, undertaken under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with NRI organization Water Sports Simple India, aims to establish the reservoir as a premier tourist destination.
Speaking to the media after the inauguration, Minister Srinivas emphasized, “This initiative is not just about tourism, it’s about creating opportunities for local youth and ensuring sustainable development for the region. With an investment of Rs 5 crore, we are bringing global safety standards to ensure a world-class experience for visitors.” He outlined the development plan, which encompasses water taxis and speed boats in Phase 1, water sports activities in Phase 2, and houseboats and floating cottages in Phase 3.
To enhance the visitor experience, the Minister announced the provision of additional facilities such as lighting and toilets to accommodate nighttime tourists. Highlighting the broader impact, he stated, “Boat rides here will become a major attraction for those traveling to Araku via Visakhapatnam, offering a unique blend of adventure and scenic beauty.” Efforts to restore boat services for tribal communities in nearby villages are also underway under the guidance of the Forest Department.
The project was inaugurated in memory of the late Gorripati Buchi Apparao, a visionary who played a pivotal role in the reservoir’s development. “The late Buchi Apparao’s contributions were instrumental in bringing the Tatipudi project to life. Today’s launch is a tribute to his relentless efforts and dedication,” the Minister remarked.
Local leaders lauded the initiative for its dual benefits of tourism promotion and employment generation. Vizianagaram MLA Aditi Gajapathi stated, “This project will uplift the local economy by creating jobs and establishing Tatipudi as a must-visit destination.” Palavalasa Yashaswini, Chairperson of the Turpu Kapu welfare and development Corporation, expressed her pride, saying, “It’s an honour to witness the transformation of this reservoir into a prominent tourist spot.”
Key highlights of the project include a fleet of boats, such as two-seater, four-seater, and 16-seater water taxis, with boating services available daily from 9 AM to 6 PM. Ticket prices range from Rs 100 to Rs 200, depending on the boat type. G. Papa Rao, Executive Officer of Water Sports Simple India, assured, “Tourist safety is our top priority. All operators are certified, and we follow the highest standards of safety protocols.”
Project Committee Chairman Kondapalli Kondalarao and Water Resources Department officials pledging their commitment to the project’s success. This initiative is set to position Tatipudi Reservoir as a hub for adventure tourism, while fostering local development and community well-being.
