Miscreants damage property in OU; student hurt

Over 20 students on Friday barged into the Osmania University and damaged the property seeking allotment of hostel. One of them was badly injured in the incident. Reacting to the incident, Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University Prof. D Ravinder said that hostel and mess were ready to every student (except self-finance students). Some students are deliberately spreading false information about the administration, he added.

Two hostels have been allocated on Osmania University campus for PG students studying at Nizam College. So far, accommodation for only 52 students was renewed out of the 134 students. Though Sarayu hostel has been allocated for mess and accommodation for the new students, the senior boarders are not vacating it. Moreover, the students contend that there is no way they will vacate E2 hostel. A large number of outsiders (non-boarders) are staying in the E2 hostel rooms in the name of students.

On several occasions in the past, the authorities had met with the students and tried to convince them to vacate. The Vice-Chancellor clarified that all students should follow the rules at the university. Only 20 students are trying to create a problem. This morning, 20 students jumped the gates of the university administrative building. In this process, a student was hit by the gate spokes and was injured. Neither the security personnel nor the police laid hands on anyone there, he added.

Some students entered the administrative building and broke the locks of the main gate. The furniture and glass doors were destroyed. The VC has assured that they are ready to provide hostel and mess facility to every student who has applied and appealed to the student bodies not to believe in false propaganda spread by a few. He said that everything is calm and orderly on the Osmania University campus, where 10,000 students are studying. Why should a problem arise for only 20 or 30 people? It is only for outsiders (non-boarder) it is an issue, he added.
