MLA hails rich legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bhadur Shastri

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Shadnagar MLA Veerlapalli Shankar and prominent Congress leaders paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in a series of events held at Shadnagar in Rangareddy district. The leaders hailed the legacy of both national icons, emphasising their contributions to India’s freedom and development.
Shankar led several programmes to honour Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, starting with a tribute at the government camp office. He placed floral garlands on the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, who is revered worldwide for his non-violent fight for India’s independence. He praised Gandhi as a symbol of peace and non-violence, highlighting his use of satyagraha to achieve freedom for India.
Following this, the MLA and his team paid respects at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Farooq Nagar’s Gandhi Chowk and then moved on to Gunj Road in Ward 20, where they paid tribute to the statues of both Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Speaking to the media, Veerlapalli Shankar lauded Shastri as a visionary leader who changed India’s outlook with his famous slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,” and praised his commitment to the welfare of the nation.

Several Congress leaders were present at these events, including Municipal Chairman Narender, Commissioner Cheema Venkanna, and senior leaders like Mohammad Ali Khan Babar and Yadayah Yadav. Other key participants included P Raghu, Agganuru Baswam, and Srikanth Reddy.
