Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Uravakonda MLA Payyavula Keshav was arrested by the police when he was organising a dharna along with the farmers demanding that the government release water to the crops under the Guntakal branch canal.
Payyavula Keshav, along with a large number of farmers, squatted on the highway demanding the release of water from the crops under the Guntakal branch canal as crops were withering. The police arrested them and shifted him to the police station.
Payyavula Keshav told the media that crops on over 30,000 acres were withering due to the stopping of water release from the GB canal.  The farmers expressed fears that the crops worth Rs 300 crore were withering due to lack of water, Keshav lamented. He questioned why water is not being released when there is adequate water in the reservoir. Meanwhile, the vehicles on the Bangalore highway were stranded for one kilometre on either side of the road due to the road blockade.
