Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vikas Raj said on Monday that the Election Model Code will immediately come into effect following the publishing of the Election schedule on Monday by the Election Commission of India. He was addressing a press meeting at the CEO’s office. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) comes into effect immediately and he urged all political parties to abide by it. A compendium of MCC is provided to all political parties, he said. For the first time, the ECI has introduced integrated expenditure monitoring software during the current elections. All advertisements on press and TVs need a pre-certification from media monitoring committees, he said He said this time the focus is on the creation of a good interface and experience for voters in exercising their voting rights. He said model polling stations for women and persons with disabilities are being worked out. Although the EPIC card is the primary identity for a voter to vote, the ECI has listed 12 different ID cards like the PAN card, the Aadhaar Card, and the driving license for voter recognition.
