Modi Govt functioning like Indira’s emergency regime: KCR

Must read

The Modi government is functioning like the way the Congress government of Indira Gandhi used to function during the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi in 1975, said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday.

He said the people of Karnataka taught the BJP a lesson and now the people of the entire country will teach them a lesson. KCR said the people of Karnataka rejected BJP even though they bowed like monkeys before them.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP leaders met KCR at Pragathi Bhavan on Saturday. The Chief Minister hosted a lunch for the guests and discussed political issues.

Addressing a joint press conference KCR said, “Indira Gandhi nullified the Allahabad Court’s judgement and imposed Emergency. Now, the Modi government has promulgated an ordinance against the Supreme Court order. The Modi Government has no moral right to speak on the Emergency.”

He said that these aren’t acche din but worst than the dark days of the Emergency.

He appealed to the Modi Government to withdraw the ordinance and respect the SC judgment.

“We will support Arvind Kejriwal and his fight against the ordinance in Parliament. Don’t make the issue too big. The government in Delhi was elected thrice. We visited Delhi and studied the government’s programmes like the Moholla clinics, schools and welfare schemes. Without an iota of doubt, the Modi government has insulted the people of Delhi. The people will teach a befitting lesson to Modi,” KCR said.

“Modi is moving on the path of Indira Gandhi. He is not allowing elected governments to function and not honouring court judgements. It means the country is facing another Emergency. The Karnataka people gave a mandate against the BJP. Earlier, the Centre withdrew anti-farmer laws and the ordinance should also be revoked. It is a wrong move against the Delhi government. I demand that the Modi government should withdraw the ordinance without any delay. It is a question of democracy,” he added.

“The Supreme Court order said that powers should be delegated to the Delhi government. The Centre does not honour court orders. It is a statutory obligation that the Governor should call a budget session. They don’t allow us to hold sessions. It is unfortunate that non-BJP state governments are holding budget sessions with court orders. The Centre is acting like a barbarian,” KCR said.

He said that the “Centre’s dictatorial attitude towards non-BJP ruling state governments has peaked. Prime Minister Modi’s government is creating big trouble for elected state governments. The Centre is imposing economic sanctions on non-BJP state governments and is preventing them from exercising constitutional powers, KCR said.

He said that the Governor’s post is ornamental and came down heavily on the Governor not allowing to introduce the budget or pass it like in Punjab.

Kejriwal thanked KCR for his support. “As the Chief Minister of Delhi, I lost the authority to transfer bureaucrats. The Prime Minister does not respect the Supreme Court. The orders of the Supreme Court are dishonoured.  Modi’s dictatorship continues in the country. Non-BJP state governments are not allowed to function,” he said.

Kejriwal said that we will launch another freedom struggle to save the country’s democracy.

“The Delhi Government is elected but the Lieutenant Governor is selected. Raj Bhavans are functioning like BJP offices. The TS Governor stopped Telangana Bills. The Punjab Government’s bills are also pending before the Governor. Non-BJP state governments are targeted,” Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said.

“The Centre is not giving funds to states. We boycotted NITI Aayog meetings because the Centre is not honouring the demands of states,” Mann said.

“KCR came to Chandigarh and provided financial assistance to the families of dead farmers. Recently, I visited the Kaleshwaram Project. My visit to the check dams in Telangana is intended to study them and increase groundwater levels in Punjab,” he said.
