Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for infrastructure projects worth over Rs 58,000 crore in Amaravati, calling the city a symbol of a resurgent Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing a large gathering, Modi said, “Amaravati is where tradition meets progress, a land that reflects the peace of its Buddhist past and the energy of a developing India.” He described the projects as crucial steps towards fulfilling the aspirations of Andhra Pradesh and building a developed nation.

The projects span highways, railways, capital region development and defence. Notably, railway budget allocations for the state have increased tenfold since 2014, reaching over Rs 9,000 crore in 2025. The state has achieved 100% railway electrification and now runs eight Vande Bharat trains.

In Amaravati, major works include the High Court, Assembly, Secretariat, Raj Bhavan, and housing for 5,200 families, backed by Rs 17,400 crore in trunk infrastructure and flood mitigation systems. A Rs 20,400 crore road network covering 1,281 km with integrated utilities was also launched.

Modi praised Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s vision and recalled laying Amaravati’s foundation in 2015. He said the city is set to become a hub for IT, AI, green energy, clean industry, education and healthcare.

He also announced the Nava Durga Testing Range of DRDO at Nagayalanka, calling it a force multiplier for India’s defence.

Reiterating the Centre’s commitment to farmers, youth, women and the poor, Modi highlighted schemes like PM-Kisan (Rs 17,500 crore disbursed in AP), Fasal Bima (Rs 5,500 crore in claims), and fertiliser subsidies worth Rs 12 lakh crore nationwide.

He assures full support for the Polavaram project and announced a PM Ekta Mall in Visakhapatnam under the “One District One Product” scheme.

Modi also declared that the 10th International Day of Yoga (21 June) will be hosted in AP, urging citizens to make it a record event.
