Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 554 Amrit Stations and 1,500 Road over Bridges (RoBs) worth Rs 1,800 crore of the South Central Railway next August, the SCR announced on Saturday.
Modi will also inaugurate 15 railway stations in Telangana, 34 railway stations in Andhra Pradesh, six railway stations in Maharashtra and two railway stations in Karnataka worth Rs 925 crore. The PM will also 156 inaugurate RoBs worth Rs 927.31 crore.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) launched by the Railway Ministry is aimed at modernizing railway stations. The idea is based on the implementation of various critical elements that cater to the increasing needs of railway stations.
The facilities planned under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme are the improvement of facades, providing aesthetically pleasing entrance porches, betterment of rail station approaches to ensure smooth access by widening roads, proper signage, dedicated pedestrian pathways, well-planned parking areas, improved lighting etc.
The plan also includes landscaping, providing green patches, local art to create a pleasant experience for rail users, earmarking stalls for the ‘One Station One Product’ scheme, enabling second entry for the station building and circulating area as per feasibility, construction of high-level platforms and adequate platform shelters, provision of passenger facilities like high-quality public announcement systems, LED station name boards, and improvements to waiting halls.
Of the 156 RoBs Telangana will have 49, 59 will be in Andhra Pradesh, 19 in Maharashtra and 29 in Madhya Pradesh. This will help strengthen the safety of both road and rail users, facilitate seamless movement of road traffic without stoppings at level crossing gates, and will act as a bridge connecting localities, villages and towns.
SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain said, “These initiatives will strengthen rail infrastructure in the zone and also enhance safety standards. The redevelopment of these railway stations is being accorded top priority so that work gets completed within the planned time. Once completed, these stations will provide a unique experience to passengers.”
