The monkey menace has reached alarming proportions in Chennur town of Mancherial district. It has triggered panic among people. Almost daily, the simians are attacking the people and inflict injuries on them.
The people are living in fear psychosis due to the menace. Complaints lodged with the Forest officials have evoked no response, the people alleged and expressed their anguish over the growing problem.
In a recent incident, a group of monkeys attacked walkers on the high school ground here and severely injured one of the walkers. In another instance, a person had to jump off a building following a simian attack and was hospitalised with a broken leg.
Groups of monkeys are barging into houses and stealing eatables. If anyone obstructs them, they are not hesitating to attack them.
The number of injured because of the simian attack is on the rise, but the officials are insensitive to the problem.
The people have been appealing to the Forest and Municipal authorities to protect them from the monkey gangs.
