Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that there is a need to introduce more programmes for the development of Dalits and the government will take steps for that in future.
He paid tributes to Bhagya Reddy Verma, who worked for Dalit families, Dalit women and students on his 135th birth anniversary.
The CM said the government is formally organising the birth and death anniversaries of Bhagya Reddy Verma to honour him and to continue his work.
He said that Bhagya Reddy Verma laid a solid foundation for the education of Dalits by establishing schools for Dalit girls in Hyderabad state.
The CM praised Madari Bhagya Reddy Varma’s efforts to educate Dalits through literature, harikathas and lectures.
The CM said the Telangana government is successfully implementing many schemes for the development of SCs inspired by Bhagya Reddy Verma.
He said the special development fund for Scheduled Castes, the Ambedkar overseas scholarship for higher education abroad, skill training for SCs, three acres for Dalits, concessions for SC entrepreneurs, TS Pride to train Dalits entrepreneurship, up to 101 units of free electricity for poor SC families and quality education through gurukulas are some of the steps taken by the government to help SCs.
He said that Telangana government is credited with introducing the Dalit Bandhu scheme for the development of SCs.
The CM said that naming the Secretariat as the Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat and the installation of the 125-feet Ambedkar statue in Hyderabad symbolises the government’s desire to help Dalits.
