Must read

Kesineni Srinivas (Nani), Member of Parliament from Vijayawada, has submitted a representation to Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Arjun Munda seeking immediate assistance for the farmers in his constituency who suffered severe losses due to Cyclone Michaung. He said that the cyclone which recently made landfall in Andhra Pradesh caused extensive damage to crops in thousands of acres.
The TDP MP met Minister Arjun Munda at his chamber in New Delhi on Friday. He explained the severe crop loss in Vijayawada constituency and requested immediate assistance for farmers.
MP Kesineni Srinivas has said that crops such as paddy, maize, chilli, cotton, papaya, banana, and mango were damaged by the cyclone. These crops are the lifeline of the local economy. The incessant rains that lasted two days, along with strong winds led to widespread destruction of the crops, leaving farmers in a state of distress, he added.
The crop damage not only threatens food security, but also poses a significant economic challenge for the region, he added.
“Unfortunately, the response from the State government in providing relief and support to the affected farmers has been inadequate. This has left our farmers in dire straits, and it is evident that the State government has failed to adequately respond to the crisis. I request your immediate intervention and support in the assessment of crops. Compensation, rehabilitation measures and technical assistance are also needed,” he said.
The timely support of the Central government is vital in alleviating the suffering of those affected by the natural disaster and in securing the future of agriculture in his region, he added.
