Chief Minister Revanth Reddy urged Muslims not to support regional parties. “They will wear Sherwani, eat Qubani and take part in Ramzan celebrations, but in New Delhi, they will join hands with Modi,” he said while speaking on the occasion of National Education Day and Minority Welfare Day on Monday.
Addressing the ideological divide in the country, he referred to two “parivaars” (families) in India. One is the “Modi Parivaar”, which he alleged stirs ‘discord,’ and the “Gandhi Parivaar”, which he praised for ‘trying to maintain’ national unity.
“It was the Gandhi family’s legacy, and visionaries like Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, who introduced educational policies to empower all sections of society,” he said, underscoring the Congress’s commitment to providing equitable opportunities.
Revanth rejected the notion of considering Muslims as mere voters and said, “We regard the Muslim community as brothers, as family.”
Reflecting on the Congress’s long standing support for minorities, he said that while no minority member currently holds a ministerial position due to electoral results, the government has taken steps to offer roles in advisory and legislative bodies by including Shabbir Ali as a government advisor and Amir Ali Khan as an MLC.
He also noted the inclusion of a minority officer in the Chief Minister’s Office, a first after YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s tenure.
