Mylavaram MLA Vasantha Krishna Prasad of YSRCP joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) at a programme held in Hyderabad on Saturday. He was accompanied by several of his followers and people’s representatives, who also switched sides to TDP in the presence of party chief N Chandrababu Naidu. Chandrababu welcomed Vasantha Krishna Prasad by draping a party scarf around his neck.
Ibrahimpatnam Mandal Parishad President Paladugu Jyotsna, along with several municipal councillors and sarpanches, also joined TDP.
Vasantha Krishna Prasad had defeated former MLA and former minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao in the 2019 elections. Devineni Uma has been in charge of the party, but Vasantha is likely to be chosen as the TDP candidate for the ensuing elections. Devineni Uma and his followers did not attend the welcome event.
After joining TDP, MLA Vasantha Krishna Prasad spoke to the media and said that he joined the party to work for the development of the State. He described Chandrababu Naidu as a development-oriented leader. He expressed concern over the problems faced by the youth and unemployed people in the State due to the lack of job opportunities. He made it clear that he would be working for the party whether or not the party gives him a ticket.
He urged the people to vote for the TDP-JSP alliance in the elections. He added that Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and Nara Lokesh were the best choices to solve the problems of the unemployed youth. Vasantha Krishna Prasad also stated that the development of Mylavaram constituency would be possible only by the TDP. Chandrababu Naidu assured that if the party formed the government, adequate funds would be allocated for the development of the constituency.
Meanwhile, Vasantha Krishna Prasad made allegations against the YSRCP, stating that he received no recognition from the party despite working hard. He also commented that the State government had failed to provide sufficient funds for the development of Mylavaram, and several representations given to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had gone ignored. He alleged that the CMO had not released a single paisa for his constituency.
