Nara Lokesh, general secretary of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), received an unexpected surprise from the fans of Tollywood actor Jr NTR during his state-wide padayatra, ‘Yuva Galam,’ as it reached Rangannagudem village in Bapulapadu mandal on Tuesday. Eye-catching posters displayed the desire of TDP supporters to see Jr NTR as their future Chief Minister.
Lokesh was visibly taken aback when he was warmly greeted by fans brandishing flexi posters of the actor. The opposition party has consistently asserted its substantial vote bank in the Gannavaram constituency.
However, the appearance of Jr NTR’s posters along Lokesh’s padyatra route seems to have punctured the TDP’s self-assuredness.
Krishna and Guntur districts have posed a significant challenge for the opposition party due to their limited presence, and this has led to a leadership crisis. Nara Lokesh is struggling to command the respect of local TDP leaders, who appear to be indifferent to their party leader Chandrababu Naidu’s directives.
In a related development, three Members of Parliament, who were elected on the TDP ticket, have decided to boycott the Yuva Galam padayatra. Lok Sabha MP from Guntur, Jayadev Galla, and Vijayawada MP Kesineni have chosen not to acknowledge Lokesh’s padayatra. Additionally, there are speculations circulating that millionaire MP Jayadev may step away from active politics before the upcoming 2024 elections.
