Director Subbu Mangadevi, known for his film Solo Brathuke So Better, is now directing another film titled Bachchalamalli, starring Allari Naresh in the lead role. The film is scheduled to release on December 20.
When asked about the comparisons between Naresh’s character in Bachchalamalli and Pushpa, Subbu clarified, “Although both characters may appear similar, they are completely different. The only similarity is that both characters work as labourers, with Naresh playing a tractor driver in my film.”
Subbu expressed his gratitude towards producer Razesh Danda, who is also a close friend. “When I narrated the story to him, he suggested I meet Naresh, and to my surprise, Naresh accepted the role immediately,” Subbu said.
The director emphasised that the character of Bachchalamalli is entirely fictional and not based on any real person. “I used the name Bachchalamalli, but the characterisation is completely imaginary,” he clarified. Subbu described the story as a period drama set in the 1990s. “Growing up in the 90s, I experienced a more natural and emotional way of life. With the advent of technology and social media, emotions have become more artificial. That’s why I chose to write a period drama,” he explained.
Subbu also shared a personal experience that inspired him to write the story. “I lost my mother during the pandemic and I wanted to convey the emotions of a mother in this film. The story revolves around the theme of regret and the importance of expressing emotions before it’s too late,” he said.
The film’s shooting took place primarily in live locations near Tuni. “One of the biggest challenges we faced was hiding mobile phones on set, as everyone was using them,” Subbu recalled.
Amritha Aiyer plays the female lead opposite Naresh and Subbu praised her performance. “We gave importance to her character and she delivered a great performance,” he said. Rao Ramesh plays a significant role in the film and Subbu is confident that the audience will appreciate his performance.
