Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has declared that the coalition government’s goal is to create a crime-free Andhra Pradesh, assuring citizens that peace and security will be restored. In the Assembly, he released a white paper on the law and order situation from 2019 to 2024, emphasising that stringent action will be taken against anyone causing disruption, regardless of their status.
In his address, the Chief Minister alleged that YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had looted the State. He reiterated the NDA government’s policy of zero tolerance for crime. Naidu stated that 250 SCs and STs and 2,027 women were brutally murdered in various parts of the State over the past five years. He also highlighted the dramatisation of the murder of YS Vivekananda Reddy, the paternal uncle of Pulivendula MLA YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, and expressed regret over the harassment of former minister and Assembly speaker Dr. Kodela Sivaprasad, which allegedly led to his suicide.
Chandrababu Naidu said that in a democracy, the government’s primary responsibility is to protect the lives and assets of its citizens. He criticised the previous administration for neglecting law and order for five years, contrasting it with the disciplined approach of the Andhra Pradesh police. Naidu recalled that there was no compromise on law and order in the combined State despite various challenges.
The Chief Minister stated, “To avoid allegations of political vengeance, we first arrested our party MLA and then took others into custody. The region began progressing only then.” He noted that measures taken between 2014 and 2019, including the Prevention of Detention (PD) Act, instilled fear in lawbreakers. As a result, the State saw a 15% reduction in murders, 16% in kidnappings, 20% in physical attacks, 25% in lootings, and 11% in harassment cases.
Naidu also revealed that 17 cases were registered against him in the past five years, except for one instance when he staged a protest for the Babli project in Telangana. He mentioned that seven cases were filed against Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, who was forcibly removed from Visakhapatnam.
When Pawan Kalyan attempted to enter the State while I was arrested, he was stopped at the inter-state border and staged a protest on the road,” Naidu added.
The Chief Minister expressed regret over the daylight murder of TDP activist Tota Chandraiah, who was killed for resisting pro-Jagan slogans. Naidu highlighted several similar incidents.
Naidu accused the government of using GO number 1 to suppress TDP activities, with some leaders placed under house arrest and thousands of party activists detained on false charges. He noted that TDP leader JC Prabhakar Reddy faced the highest number of cases (66) and was arrested 46 times. Additionally, Dr. Sudhakar was branded a madman for demanding masks during the COVID-19 pandemic, and senior IPS officer AB Venkateswara Rao was denied a posting for five years.
Reiterating that YS Jagan is unfit for politics, Naidu announced plans to introduce reforms in the police system and raise awareness about new criminal laws. He added that the latest technology would be utilised to control drug and ganja abuse.
