Vizianagaram
A fresh wave of diarrhea cases has struck Gurla Mandal in Vizianagaram district, with six cases reported in Jammu village, raising concerns among residents and prompting renewed calls for improved sanitation and water quality. The recent outbreak, which emerged between December 23rd and 25th, follows a deadly incident in October that claimed eight lives and sickened over 100 people with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. Despite government efforts to establish medical camps and provide treatment, the resurgence of the disease has shaken the community.
Investigations into the previous outbreak pointed to contaminated drinking water as the primary cause, with issues identified in the village’s water supply system, including leaking pipelines and those located near garbage dumps. The government has since implemented measures to improve water quality and sanitation in the region. However, the return of diarrhea cases has raised serious concerns.
“We are taking all necessary steps to contain the situation and prevent further spread of the disease,” said District Medical Health Officer, Dr. S. Bhaskara Rao. He reported that all affected individuals are receiving treatment at local health centers and the Vizianagaram Government General Hospital (GGH) and are in stable condition.
To ensure the situation remains under control, two teams have been formed to conduct door-to-door surveys and gather further information. The teams have reported no further concerns, indicating that the village is currently free from any potential outbreaks. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and seek immediate medical attention if any symptoms arise.
