New Secretariat: Traffic chaos for commuters

Must read

There is more of confusion and annoying experiences for the commuters passing by from the routes of Somajiguda, Begumpet and Raj Bhavan road due to the newly constructed Telangana State Secretariat.

There are no traffic diversions, but irregular timings for halting the traffic on the roads as Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s convoy or ministers pass by.

The Hussain Sagar Road where parks and children’s museum are located has turned out to be a mess for the commuters.

Shaker, a private firm employee said, “We are general public travelling to different locations. As this is summer vacation, I think it was Sunday and my wife took out children. She returned home telling how her auto was stopped twice because of the movement of the ministers near Begumpet and Raj Bhavan Road.”

The Pioneer correspondent also observed that in the hot spell people were cleared and asked to wait for CM KCR travelling from Secretariat to Pragathi Bhavan in Begumpet. Then on the same day, Mr Rao was heading towards Banjara Hills and the four roads near Taj Deccan were blocked.

Another commuter said, “They are representatives of people and mandatory travelling is required, but the rules can be altered and schedule must be released by the departments concerned as this new Secretariat route is with masses that come for relaxation such as walking, jogging in and around.”

The people are also more vexed with road construction work right opposite the Telangana Martyrs Memorial Building. “The road works are in progress. They must be completed with a quick plan because traffic is restricted to take a right turn and we are diverted towards Masab Tank. If this construction work is completed then the parking lot is removed,” said Venkat, a commuter.

The traffic police on duty on the opposite road to Secretariat also have one torch light with traffic signals. They monitor the main roads and vehicular commuters with those lights nowadays.
