In a bid to cater to the needs of the state’s growing population,the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Hospital is set to undergo a massive expansion with the construction of a new 2,000-bed building.

The foundation stone for the new building will soon be laid by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. To support the expansion, the Telangana government has allocated a budget of over Rs 12,000 crore.

Finance and Health Minister T Harish Rao held a review meeting with senior officials of the Health Department at the new Secretariat on Tuesday. On this occasion, the minister mentioned that the new NIMS structure, which will be built on eight floors, will increase the total number of beds from 1,500 to 3,500. He also stated that once the recently laid foundation stone for the super-specialty MCH with 200 more beds will be made available, bringing the total number of beds in NIMS alone to 3,700. This expansion is set to provide better access to health services to the people.

The minister said that the expansion of NIMS has been initiated by the Chief Minister, along with the construction of 1,000-bed TIMS hospitals on all sides of Hyderabad. It has been recommended to complete all necessary departmental approvals for this new building, which will provide OP, IP, and emergency services in all three blocks, and commence the construction process.

The construction of the new building is part of the Telangana government’s plan to improve access to health services in the state. Minister Harish Rao emphasised the need to complete the construction of the 200-bed super-specialty MCH being built at Gandhi Hospital by the end of this month, which will be the first of its kind in the country.

Harish Rao also directed officials to improve transplant surgeries in Gandhi Hospital, and to make the state Organ Transplant Centre and Government Fertility Centre fully operational.

The review meeting was attended by Health Secretary Rizvi, Aarogyasri CEO Vishalakshi and other officials. The Chief Minister urged all medical staff, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics, to work hard to provide quality medical services to the people.
