NMC revokes admissions to BJP MP Sujana’s college in Ghanpur

Must read

The National Medical Council (NMC) announced on Tuesday the cancellation of admissions to MBBS courses at the private medical college owned by BJP MP Sujana Chowdary in Ghanpur. The council further revoked the licence of the medical college, which is located in Ghanpur.

The MediCiti Institute of Medical Sciences, Ghanpur, owned by Sujana Chowdary, was previously affiliated to Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences in Warangal. However, the NMC’s cancellation order specifically stated that admissions to the MBBS course at MediCiti Institute of Medical Sciences for the academic year 2023-24 have been cancelled.

The status update issued by NMC read, “Recognised for 100 seats. Recognised for increase of seats from 100 to 150 when degree granted on or after February, 2017. (Previously under NTR University of Health Sciences). Admission has been stopped u/s 26 of NMC Act. 2019 for the Academic Year 2023-2024.”

It maybe mentioned here that Sujana Chowdary, is a prominent political figure as a member of the BJP and a Member of Parliament. The cancellation of admissions and the revocation of the medical college’s licence could have broader implications, both politically and in the medical education sector.
