‘No benefits only curbs on poor’ Harish slams govt for unjust cuts

BRS MLA Harish Rao launched a scathing attack on the state government accusing it of failing to deliver on its promises and implementing welfare schemes with unjust cuts.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has prioritised imposing restrictions instead of providing benefits to the poor, he said a press conference at the Telangana Bhavan here on Friday. He said that although the government announced the launch of new welfare schemes on January 26, the intent appears more on limiting access rather than benefiting the needy.
“Revanth promised prosperity but has delivered betrayal. None of the six guarantees, from Mahalakshmi to Cheyutha, have been fully implemented,” he said.

Addressing the issue of ration cards, Harish accused the Congress Government of negligence and demanded immediate action. He said that around 1.1 million applications submitted during Praja Palana Dinotsavam have been ignored and selections are based solely on the caste census survey.
“Why are applications from Mee Seva and Praja Palana being discarded? This is a clear attempt to deny the poor their rights,” he said, citing cases from his constituency where only a fraction of the applicants were approved.

He urged the government to revise income eligibility limits in line with inflation. “Income limits for rural areas should be increased to Rs 2.55 lakh and for urban areas to Rs 3.40 lakh. This would reflect today’s economic realities and ensure wider coverage for ration cards,” he said.

Harish also lambasted the government for its approach to agricultural labourers, claiming that benefits under the “Atmiya Bharosa” scheme have been unjustly restricted.

“Of the one crore labourers in the state, only six lakh are being considered eligible due to arbitrary rules,” he said and called for deciding the inclusion criteria at the village level.

Harish accused the Congress of misleading the public with unfulfilled promises in its manifesto.

“Even after 400 days in power, the Mahalakshmi Scheme remains a non-starter. Revanth has turned guarantees into half-measures,” he said, highlighting his failures in job creation, unemployment benefits and housing initiatives.

He warned of strong protests if the government does not address the issues of ration cards and welfare schemes.

He called on citizens to question the government in gram sabhas starting January 28. “We demand that the government honour its promises and ensure every eligible family gets a ration card without delay,” he said, adding that public anger is mounting and protests are inevitable.

Harish concluded by asserting that the Congress Government’s failures are pushing the poor and farmers into distress. He demanded immediate rectification and threatened widespread protests if the issues are not addressed.
