No restriction on number of applications for liquor shops: Govt

Must read

The new liquor policy for Andhra Pradesh (2024-26) allows people to submit multiple applications for liquor shop licences. This initiative aims to streamline the licensing process and encourage greater participation in the liquor business. By permitting a single individual to file several applications, the government hopes to enhance competition and boost revenue generation.
State Excise and Prohibition Director Nishant Kumar stated that under the Liquor Policy 2024-26, there are no restrictions on the number of applications a person can file for participation in the lottery process for shops. Additionally, there are no limits on the number of shops one individual can hold at any given time.
Kumar emphasised that, given these changes, it is essential to simplify the authorisation process to enable prospective applicants to file any number of applications and participate in the draw of lots through their representatives.
In this context, the department has released a proforma with ID-based authentication for self-verification, which simplifies the authorization process for applicants. Kumar explained that it is sufficient to provide details such as the name of the applicant and the name of the authorized person in the prescribed format before submitting it to the authorities. He directed that Prohibition and Excise Officers and Deputy Commissioners across all districts in the state take these points into account and act accordingly.
