NTR District Collector Dr G Srijana has briefed the Central team, led by Joint Secretary of the Union Home Department, Anil Subrahmanyam, on the severe damage caused by record heavy rains and floods in Krishna River and Budameru Rivulet in Vijayawada and surrounding areas. She informed the Central team that the district has incurred a damage loss more than Rs.1,200 crore.
The Central team visited the district on Thursday to assess the flood-affected regions. During their visit, the team visited a photo exhibition detailing the floods, the government’s assistance, and the damage incurred by various departments.
Dr Srijana explained that the district recorded 26 cm of rainfall in 24 hours, leading to over 11.43 lakh cusecs of water flowing into the Prakasam Barrage. Also, around 40,000 cusecs of flood from the Budameru Rivulet inundated 32 out of 64 corporation wards, including areas in Ibrahimpatnam and G Kondur mandals, she said.
Further she explained that large-scale relief operations were launched on September 1, providing food, drinking water, milk, medicines, biscuits, and other essentials, with helicopters and drones assisting in the efforts.
