Arvind Kumar, Special Chief Secretary to Municipal Administration and Urban Development, has conducted an orientation workshop to AC, LBs, GHMC Officials, MCs and sanitation staff on dog bites.

In the light of the recent amendment and notification of the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department, Government of Telangana, organised the orientation workshop to AC,LBS, GHMC Officials, MCs and sanitation staff of 141 Urban Local Bodies at the Institute of Engineers, Khairtabad on Wednesday.

The aim of the workshop was to provide a thorough understanding of the rules, for their effective implementation. Dr N Satyranarayana, C& DMA, MAUD, said “The amended rules provide procedures for dog bite redressal, monitoring and implementation of an ABC programme. We want all our competent officers to be fully aware of the law, so that they are equipped to execute successful programmes in the larger interest of public health and safety.”

 Arvind Kumar encouraged the participants to understand the procedure of street dog population management, as laid down in law and asked them to actively prevent any actions and incidents that may be carried out in lieu of the ABC programme. Speakers included Shreya Paropkari, an advocate, and Dr Karnati Srinivasulu, General Secretary, Animal Welfare Society, who spoke about the factors and redressal of man-dog conflict, the ABC Rules 2023 and practical approach on control of dogs and dog bites.
